Battery type and cold-weather lifeMost trail cameras run on AA cells. Lithium AAs hold their voltage in freezing weather and last far longer than alkalines, which fade fast once temperatures drop and can leave you with a dead camera in midwinter. Rechargeable NiMH cells sit in between. Cold, plus lots of video and lots of night flashes, is what drains a camera; a solar panel option can stretch a deployment through a whole season.
SD card class and capacityThe memory card stores your images, and cellular cameras still use one as local backup. How much should you spend?

Spend according to where the camera goes and how you will retrieve images. How do I keep the camera working and keep it from being stolen?
