That means a recent high-end Mac or a very recent Windows laptop, plus a Thunderbolt 5 peripheral, which remains a small and expensive category. Plug this cable between a Thunderbolt 4 laptop and a Thunderbolt 4 dock and you get exactly Thunderbolt 4 performance, at a flagship price.

It is also 1m long. That is a physics constraint, not a cost-cutting decision, but it means this cable cannot be the one that reaches your nightstand.
