The Best Nose Hair Trimmers: 6 Compared (and One to Skip)
We compared six nose and ear hair trimmers on cutter design, included heads, water rating, cleaning, power source and the warranty each maker states.
The short version
The Philips Norelco Nose Trimmer 5000 (NT5600/62) is the best overall pick: it ships with rotary, linear and detail trimmers, two eyebrow guards, a pouch and an AA battery, and Philips backs it with a 2-year warranty. The Panasonic ER-GN30 is the value pick, a single-head trimmer Panasonic calls fully waterproof with curved hypoallergenic blades and a vortex rinse system. The Remington NE3845C is the shower-friendly pick with a vertical and a rotary trimmer and a 2-year limited warranty. The Wahl 05545-400 suits buyers who want three heads and the longest stated warranty here, and the MANGROOMER INTELLIMAX PRO suits anyone who wants USB-C charging instead of AA cells. Skip the Pete & Pedro trimmer: it is only called water-resistant, takes a stated 4 hours to charge for 60 minutes of use, and its eyebrow head has no guard. Best for: most people (Philips), tight budgets (Panasonic), shower use (Remington).

A nose hair trimmer is a small, cheap tool, but the gap between a good one and a bad one shows up the first time it pulls a hair instead of cutting it. Most use a guarded rotary cutter that spins behind a slotted cap, some add a vertical dual-edge blade, and a few run on a rechargeable battery instead of a single AA. We compared six from six brands using only what each maker publishes. Water rating and the stated warranty turned out to separate them more than motor claims did.

How we judged the field
Five things matter in a nose and ear trimmer. First, the cutter: a guarded rotary head is standard, while a vertical or dual-edge blade can reach the sides of the nostril. Second, whether the maker states a real water rating, because “washable” and “water-resistant” are not the same as waterproof. Third, how the head gets clean, since hair packs into a small cutter fast. Fourth, the power source, a single AA or a rechargeable cell. Fifth, the warranty the maker actually publishes, which is often the only durability signal you get on a tool this cheap.
The field splits into AA trimmers from the big grooming brands and a smaller group of rechargeable models. We picked four AA models from Philips, Panasonic, Remington and Wahl, one rechargeable from MANGROOMER, and one rechargeable from Pete & Pedro that we would skip. Body groomers, beard trimmers and electric shavers have their own comparisons, so we left multigroomer kits out and kept this to dedicated nose and ear tools.
Philips Norelco Nose Trimmer 5000 (NT5600/62)
Buy itThe Philips Norelco Nose Trimmer 5000 is the most complete kit here without being complicated. Philips lists rotary, linear and detail trimmers in the box, plus two eyebrow combs, a storage pouch and an AA battery, so one small handle covers nostrils, ears, brows and edge work around sideburns. The Protective Guard System is built to trim without pulling, and Philips lists dual-sided steel blades and a 2-year warranty. The trade-off is water. Philips calls the 5000 fully washable, which means you can rinse the heads, but it does not publish a waterproof or shower rating the way Panasonic and Remington do. It also runs on a disposable AA, which is fine for a tool used a minute or two a week but not if you want to charge over USB. If you only ever trim your nose, the extra heads are surplus. For most people, though, this is the one to buy: it handles every small grooming job above the neck and the warranty is clear.
Panasonic ER-GN30 Ear, Nose & Facial Hair Trimmer
Buy itThe Panasonic ER-GN30 is the value pick because it does the main job well and skips everything else. Panasonic describes curved, hypoallergenic stainless steel blades with a dual-edge design that trims nose hair from the top and sides, which is a different approach from a plain rotary cap. The body is listed as fully waterproof, so you can use it dry or in the shower, and a vortex cleaning system draws in faucet water and spins it through the cutter head to flush out clippings in seconds. A protective cap and cleaning brush come in the box. The catches are small but real: the AA battery is not included, there is no eyebrow comb or second head, and Panasonic’s product page does not state a warranty length. If you just want nose and ear hair gone with the least fuss, and you like rinsing a tool under the tap, this is the cheapest sensible way to do it.
Remington Nose, Ear & Detail Trimmer with CLEANBoost (NE3845C)
Buy itThe Remington NE3845C is the pick for anyone who trims in the shower. Remington’s spec list gives it a 100% waterproof level and wet/dry use, and its CLEANBoost button opens the blades so you can wash them from the inside out, which is a real help with a cutter that clogs. It ships with two trimming attachments, a vertical trimmer and a rotary trimmer, plus an eyebrow comb, so you can try both cutter styles and keep whichever suits your nostrils. Remington’s Comfort Trim blades are meant to help prevent nicks and cuts, and the warranty is 2 years limited. The page says battery-operated but does not name the battery type, and there is no pouch or case listed. Compared with the Philips you lose the detail head and gain a stated waterproof rating and a better washout. Buy it if shower use and easy cleaning matter more to you than an extra head.
Wahl Ear, Nose & Brow 3-in-1 Battery Trimmer (05545-400)
It dependsThe Wahl 05545-400 earns a place for its warranty and its range of heads. Wahl puts rotary, reciprocating and detail heads in the box with an eyebrow guide, a protective cap and an AA battery, and it pitches the tool for necklines and sideburns as well as nose, ears and brows. The stated 3-year warranty is the longest in this group. The weakness is that Wahl’s spec list does not give a waterproof or shower rating, and its cleaning advice stops at blades that are easy to clean, with no washout system like Panasonic’s vortex or Remington’s CLEANBoost. That makes it a drier, more traditional tool. It is also an AA-only design. It depends on what you value: if you trim at the sink and want the longest stated coverage plus three heads, it is a good buy; if you want to rinse it under the shower, the Remington or Panasonic suit you better.
MANGROOMER INTELLIMAX PRO Nose and Ear Trimmer
It dependsThe MANGROOMER INTELLIMAX PRO is the rechargeable option. Its lithium battery charges over USB-C, and MANGROOMER says the same battery swaps between all of its INTELLIMAX PRO products, with spares sold separately, which matters if you already own one of its body groomers or worry about a sealed cell wearing out. The trimmer uses a 360-degree stainless steel rotary blade, MANGROOMER calls it 100% waterproof, and its HydraSpin system flushes clippings when you rinse it, with a detachable head for a deeper clean. A replacement blade and tip and a storage bag come in the box. The downsides are cost and missing numbers: it costs well over twice as much as the AA trimmers here, and the product page publishes neither runtime nor charge time nor a warranty length. There is also no eyebrow comb. Choose it if USB-C charging is the point; otherwise an AA model does the same job for less.
Pete & Pedro Nose & Ear Hair Trimmer w/ 3 Attachments
Skip itThe Pete & Pedro Nose & Ear Hair Trimmer looks like good value on paper: three heads, USB charging and published motor figures of 6,500 RPM idle and 6,000 under load. The problems are in the details the maker states itself. It is described only as water-resistant, with no rating, yet its FAQ says it can be used in the shower, while the Panasonic and Remington state full waterproof ratings at a similar price. A stated 4-hour charge buys 60 minutes of use. The maker confirms the eyebrow and mustache head has no guard, so evening out brows is freehand. And no warranty length appears on the product page, where Philips, Remington and Wahl each state two or three years. None of this makes it unusable, but every one of its rivals here answers those questions better. Skip it and buy the Panasonic or the Remington instead.

Philips Norelco Nose Trimmer 5000 (NT5600/62) vs Panasonic ER-GN30 Ear, Nose & Facial Hair Trimmer: which should you buy?
The Philips Norelco Nose Trimmer 5000 and the Panasonic ER-GN30 solve the same problem from opposite ends. The Philips is a kit: rotary, linear and detail heads, two eyebrow combs, a pouch, a battery in the box and a stated 2-year warranty. The Panasonic is one well-shaped head with curved dual-edge blades, a fully waterproof body and a vortex rinse, but you supply the AA and the page states no warranty length.
Choose the Philips if you want one tool for nose, ears, brows and sideburn edges and you are happy rinsing it at the sink. Choose the Panasonic if you only care about nose and ear hair, want to use it in the shower, and would rather spend as little as possible. If shower use matters and you still want a second head, the Remington NE3845C sits between them.
Who should buy which
- Most people: the Philips Norelco Nose Trimmer 5000 (NT5600/62). Three trimmer heads, two eyebrow guards and a 2-year warranty cover nose, ears and brows in one kit.
- Tight budgets: the Panasonic ER-GN30 Ear, Nose & Facial Hair Trimmer. One curved dual-edge head, a fully waterproof body and a vortex rinse do the core job for very little.
- Shower trimmers: the Remington Nose, Ear & Detail Trimmer with CLEANBoost (NE3845C). It lists a 100% waterproof level and a CLEANBoost washout, plus vertical and rotary heads.
- Warranty-minded buyers: the Wahl Ear, Nose & Brow 3-in-1 Battery Trimmer (05545-400). Wahl’s stated 3-year warranty is the longest here, with three heads in the box.
- No more AA batteries: the MANGROOMER INTELLIMAX PRO Nose and Ear Trimmer. It charges over USB-C and its lithium battery can be swapped for a spare.
What to look for
- A guarded cutter: the blades should sit behind a slotted cap or guard so hair reaches them and skin does not.
- A stated water rating: “fully waterproof” or “100% waterproof” means shower use; “washable” or “water-resistant” alone does not.
- A cleaning system: a washout button or rinse channel saves you picking clippings out of a tiny head.
- The right head mix: a rotary head handles nostrils and ears; add a detail head or eyebrow comb only if you will use them.
- Power that suits you: a single AA is cheap and simple, while USB-C rechargeable models skip the batteries but cost more.
- A published warranty: two or three years stated on the maker page is a better durability signal than any marketing claim.
Our final take
Buy the Philips Norelco Nose Trimmer 5000 if you want one small kit for nose, ears, brows and edges with a clear 2-year warranty. Buy the Panasonic ER-GN30 if you want the core job done cheaply in a fully waterproof body, and pick the Remington NE3845C if you trim in the shower and want an easy washout. The Wahl 05545-400 suits sink users who value its 3-year warranty, and the MANGROOMER INTELLIMAX PRO suits anyone done with AA batteries. Skip the Pete & Pedro: a vague water claim, a slow charge and an unguarded brow head leave it behind rivals at the same price.
Questions, answered
Is it safe to trim nose hair with an electric trimmer?
These trimmers are designed for it: the cutter sits behind a slotted guard so hair feeds in while skin stays outside the blades. Philips, Panasonic and Remington all describe their guards or blades as built to trim without pulling or nicking. Trim only the hair you can see at the nostril opening rather than pushing the tip deep inside. Nose hair filters air, so the goal is tidy, not bare. Follow the maker's instructions for your model.
Rotary or vertical blade: which is better?
A rotary head spins blades behind a round guard and is the classic nose and ear design. A vertical or dual-edge head cuts on the sides as well as the top, which Panasonic says lets the ER-GN30 trim from the top and sides of the nostril. The Remington NE3845C ships with both, which is a useful hedge if you are unsure. Neither is clearly better; nostril shape and hair thickness decide which feels more comfortable.
Can I use a nose trimmer in the shower?
Only if the maker says so. Panasonic calls the ER-GN30 fully waterproof for use in the shower, and Remington and MANGROOMER list 100% waterproof bodies. Philips calls the 5000 fully washable, which covers rinsing but is not a shower rating, and Wahl does not publish a water rating for the 05545-400. Pete & Pedro calls its trimmer only water-resistant, so treat shower use with caution.
Battery or rechargeable?
A single AA trimmer is cheap, light and never stranded by a dead internal cell; you just swap the battery. Rechargeable models such as the MANGROOMER INTELLIMAX PRO skip the battery aisle but cost more, and you need to keep them charged. MANGROOMER also lets you swap its lithium battery, which helps if the cell wears out. For a tool used for a minute or two a week, AA power is perfectly practical.
Do I need a separate nose trimmer if my beard trimmer has a nose head?
Not always. All-in-one kits such as the Philips Norelco All-in-One Trimmer 7000 in our beard trimmer comparison include a nose and ear attachment. A dedicated trimmer is smaller, lives in a drawer or travel bag, and saves swapping heads on a bigger tool. If you already own a multigroomer with a nose head and like it, a separate trimmer is optional.
